The core this of it is the doing it. If you haven’t exercised in a year, five years, or ever, the first week or two is thirty minutes of stretching. That’s it. The next four to eight weeks are nothing but simple bodyweight work.
Do not run out and buy weights, and workout gear and equipment and hype flags and all that bullshit.
The goal here is to build the habit and get your blood pumping. That’s all. Build the habit.
Don’t feel like it? Do it anyway.
I’m not a doctor. I’m a fifty-plus-year-old sales guy. I figured this might help you if you hear it from someone that has made the turn around.
Talk to your doctor before you start anything, especially if you have a health condition or haven’t moved in years. But you need to move your body for thirty to forty-five minutes every day.
The first / second week? Stretch. That’s it. Don’t know how to stretch? Look it up. Do it everyday. Do not get stuck in a research loop of which exercise is best. Pick something and do it. Example here. Do it everyday.
Week two / three? Maybe start some light body weight stuff. Don’t know what to do? Look it up. Do it everyday. Do not get stuck in a research loop of which exercise is best. Pick something and do it. Example here. Do it everyday.
Week four? Body weight.
Week five? Body weight.
Week six? Body weight.
The point is to build the habit. Do that first.
When? Wake up. Get your coffee. Workout. That’s what you do.
Note: Do not rush it. This is yet another mistake I made. On week 8 or 9 I was feeling really good. Stronger, leaner, etc. My attitude had improved immeasurably. I went too hard and jacked up my right shoulder something fierce. Stupid. It’s still a problem. It’s going to take way longer than you think to get in shape. Do not rush it.
Roughly 20% of the American public exercises at all. Half of them exercise in the morning. So knock this out and you’re starting your day more productive than 90% of everyone. That’s a win.
Note: Don’t talk to anyone about what your doing. Once the results start showing they will ask … but don’t engage. Why? This is about you. You’ll see what I mean.
