My entire life I was a night owl. I stayed up late, way too late. Then I’d drag myself out of bed in the morning, hit snooze two, three, four, five, six times, and drag myself into work. I could never get myself to get up early for, what? … 45 years? Now it just happens. No thought required.
you know when you hit snooze a bunch, wake up tired, rush though getting ready and fly out the door with your hair on fire? Don’t do that.
The benefit of getting up at 5 is hard to explain until you get there. For one … it’s quiet. Two … you’re getting a jump on the day that can’t be explained until you do it.
So how did I go from dragging myself out of bed every day to getting up at five? This is nothing ground breaking here but it worked.
One, have your coffee ready to go. Coffee pot is set to go off at 4:45 every morning, so when the alarm goes off at 5, there’s a hot cup waiting. Don’t “make it in the morning.”
Two, put the alarm by the door. Like, right next to the door. When it goes off, you have to get out of bed to turn it off. Once you’ve picked up the phone, you walk through the door to your coffee. That’s the trick.
The other part is going to bed at 10pm (adjust to your schedule obviously). That’s as simple as it gets. Make yourself do it.
Once you start this part move the weight check to some other point in the morning routine. When you get back from the walk and hit the shower is a good one. Up at 5. Workout. Walk. Head to shower. Check weight. Log it. Get in shower.
